Stop trying to fix your entire life this week 🛑

The other day, I stumbled upon a math fact that stopped me in my tracks: 1% of your 24-hour day is just 14 minutes and 24 seconds. The author’s point was that massive goals don’t require massive leaps; they just require moving the needle by 1% each day. 1%? That's it?

Immediately, my mind went to the women I work with who are trying to fill a cup that has a bunch of tiny leaks. When you are caught in chronic stress and people-pleasing, setting boundaries feels like an all-or-nothing mountain. We tell ourselves that to reclaim our peace, we have to deliver a flawless confrontation or overhaul our entire schedule. Because that feels terrifying, we default right back to keeping everyone else comfortable at our own expense.

You don't need a total life overhaul. You just need to stop giving away that single 1%. That's it!

The 1% Shift

When you're used to over-functioning to avoid friction, boundaries feel dangerous. It helps to separate what belongs to you:

Expectations: Hoping people will magically anticipate your needs the way you anticipate theirs.
Standards: The level of dignity, rest, and calm you require for yourself.
Boundaries: The quiet, unapologetic action you take to protect your standards without needing anyone else's approval.

3 Ways to Claim Your 14 Minutes Today

The 14-Second Delay: When asked for a favor, don't default to an automatic "yes." Pause and say: "Let me check my capacity and get back to you."

The Emotional Buffer: Take 14 uninterrupted minutes in your car before entering the house to decompress, instead of immediately shifting into accommodating everyone else.

The Clean "No": Decline an extra request without offering a long, over-explained apology.

You don’t have to manage everyone else’s comfort today. Just protect your 14 minutes.

What does your 14 minutes look like today?

Let’s try a relaxing experiment before you read a single word of this email. If you are able to do so safely: Drop your shoulders away from your ears. Unclench your jaw and let your tongue fall away from the roof of your mouth. Soften your belly. Let it expand completely. You do not have to hold it in here. Right now, you are safely entering a space where nothing is demanded of you. As women, we are often conditioned to operate in a permanent state of survival mode. We carry the expectations,...

You deserve the best of you, not just what's left of you. Read that again. Because if we're being honest, a lot of people are moving through life on autopilot, running on fumes, and calling it normal. You wake up already thinking about what needs to get done You're answering emails while eating breakfast You're mentally preparing for conversations that haven't happened yet You're taking care of everyone else's needs while pushing your own to the bottom of the list And because you've been...

Black women covering her face

MAY IS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH... and if we are being honest, many Black women are not just stressed. WE ARE STRESS! We are the calendar, the reminder app, the emotional support hotline, the backup plan, the “I got it” friend, and the person everyone calls when things fall apart. The problem is that a lot of what people call “strength” is really over-functioning. It is answering the text when you are exhausted, saying yes when you want to say no, managing others responsibilities...
